Encouraged by the success of the first Open Day ‘Analysis for Industry’ (AFI.1) Heriot-Watt University hosted potential industrial partners again on 25th of May 2022 at GRID. The guests watched presentations describing Heriot-Watt Research Facilities and opportunities for engagement complemented with guided tours of research facilities. The main goal of the day was to promote our research facilities to external users and to encourage collaborative R&D.
Our guests were welcomed by Professor Steve McLaughlin, Deputy Principal for Research and Impact, there followed a short introduction to the facilities by Dr David Ellis.
- NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) Spectroscopy (Dr David Ellis)
- X-Ray Diffraction (Dr Ruaraidh McIntosh and Professor David Bucknall)
- Mass Spectrometry at the Institute of Chemical Sciences (ICS) (Dr Ruaraidh McIntosh)
- Mass Spectrometry at the Lyell Centre (Emma Samson, Alba Navarro Rodriguez)
- Continuum Flow Lab (Dr Filipe Vilela and Dr Graeme Barker)
Again, feedback from our industrial visitors was very positive, the expectation is that this and similar events will lead to an increase in engagement between industry and HWU.
AFI.2 was supported through a EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) led by Dr David Ellis. Many thanks to Dr Grant Sellar (Business Development Executive), Julie Mitchell (Research & Engagement Directorate Administrator), Gary Brown (Business Operations Manager) Lesley-Anne Hunter (Research Development Officer) and Dr Monika Klisch (Research Technician) for their hard work in staging this event.
